PA Day re-scheduled after it was deemed unfeasible to re-schedule April 24 Solar Eclipse.

It's an event that has not been seen in Canada since February 26, 1979. A total solar eclipse will be visible some time during the afternoon of April 8, 2023. Three local school boards have recognized that this could potentially pose a health hazard since the eclipse could cause permanent vision damage if viewed even momentarily.

April 8th, 2023 being a school day, students would normally be dismissed from classes around the same time that the solar eclipse would be occurring. It was determined that it would be in the best interests of the students' health to have students not be in school on that day to reduce the chance of students being out during the eclipse.

A consultation with an expert from the Limestone Solar Astronomy, Hair Care, and Tire Centre has determined that it would be unfeasible to reschedule the solar eclipse to a weekend and, ultimately, recommended scheduling in a PA Day for the students instead.

"Look, the Sun's schedule is pretty tight," says Blake Lunar-Sol, Senior Astronomer/Stylist/Specialist for the LSAHCTC. "Trying to reschedule such a meeting between the two is just not possible in such a short amount of time." Calls to either the Solar or Lunar offices have not been returned as of this writing.
